A celebrity author signing has set off a tidal wave of excitement on lovely Mackinac Island.  Allie McMurphy welcomes the opportunity to meet bestselling horror writer Paul O’Conner and slip him a brochure for her business.  With a movie based on O’Conner’s work to be filmed on the island, Allie hopes to rent rooms to the crew.

But controversy overshadows the event. Lots of locals are spooked about tainting their romantic tourist town with tales of blood and gore. After the signing, Allie finds O’Conner face-down, his skull seemingly cracked by a cast-iron pan.
