The Older Prayer Book of Emperor Charles V

This bookmark features artwork from the Prayer Book of Emperor Charles V, which was published for the Spanish king between 1516 and 1519. The book is embellished with seventy-six illuminations as well as decorative elements including frames, initials, and colored ornamental bands throughout. The codex served as a book of moral edification for the young king who over and over again turned to its pages as evidenced by the considerably worn condition of the parchment.
