During World War II  he served as a captain of field artillery but never saw combat. After  World War II he worked briefly for the Associated Press in their New  York bureau. In 1953 he moved to Memphis, where he lived for the  remainder of his life.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Foote was the author of six novels: \u003cb\u003eTournament\u003c\/b\u003e, \u003cb\u003eFollow Me Down\u003c\/b\u003e, \u003cb\u003eLove in a Dry Season\u003c\/b\u003e, \u003cb\u003eShiloh\u003c\/b\u003e, \u003cb\u003eJordan County\u003c\/b\u003e, and \u003cb\u003eSeptember, September\u003c\/b\u003e.
