Rat Race

The dark, gritty and hilarious final installment in the critically acclaimed DCI Alison McCoist thriller trilogy.

“Beautifully plotted, chockful of shocks … Filth has never been such fun.” —The Times, Crime Book of the Month

DCI Alison McCoist is up to the oxters in Glasgow's shadiest police unit, with a list of guilty secrets growing longer by the day: no holiday, no let up and mysterious, threatening texts to her phone each day.

Fran Forbes has just bolted from the scene of a gangland massacre with only a shite-stained tracksuit and a memory stick full of crypto-currency to his name. Though he’s made a decent wedge from marathons, sponsorship deals, and the occasional magazine ad, he’s knees are done and it’s a US clinic he needs for surgery. He thought he’d left this world behind him, but now he’s running for his life.

Ally is tasked with looking into this latest underworld rammy and ends up working with some bampots even dodgier than her polis pals. She can see the target on her back.

An enemy from her past is determined to make sure her story won't have a happy ending. Can she keep Fran from being turned into mince by a Russian organised crime group and finally free herself from the fankle of high-level police corruption she's caught in?

This propulsive, darkly funny thriller is the nail-biting conclusion to Callum McSorley’s DCI Alison McCoist series, whose first book Squeaky Clean won the McIlvanney Prize for best Scottish crime book of the year.
