His research interests include the instrumentation, for, and theory and applications of, vibrational spectroscopy, with an emphasis on optical activity in vibrational transitions. He has published about 120 articles on these topics in leading journals. Professor Polavarapu obtained his PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. Following post-doctoral research work at the University of Toledo and Syracuse University, he joined Vanderbilt University in 1980.
