Sol Picciotto is Professor of Law and Head of the Law School at Lancaster University, and David Campbell is Professor of Law at Cardiff Law School and in the ESRC Research Centre for Business Relationships, Accountability, Sustainability and Society. Concerned that subsequent regulatory alternatives have often been prescribed by theorists who have little or no knowledge either of the law of regulation, or of the actual capacities of and problems with different regulatory techniques, these leading contributors go on to explore the new directions in regulatory theory which must now be pursued if regulation is to be made to work.
