My Bike
Description
A picture book about vehicles and things that go—in this case, bicycles and unicycles—by Byron Barton, the acclaimed creator of My Car, My Bus, and numerous other classic titles!
Tom, the narrator of this cheerful picture book for preschoolers, is the proud owner of a bright green bicycle. After Tom describes all the parts of his bike, he rides the bike to work. He rides along busy roads and bustling streets, past cars and buses and animals and people, until he arrives at the circus, changes into his work clothes, and goes to work. It turns out that Tom is a clown, and his job is to ride a unicycle on a high wire under the big top! A fresh and fun look at riding (on two wheels and one), community, transportation, and professions, with a surprise ending!
|Ride past trucks, buses, and cars.
Pedal past monkeys, tigers, and lions.
A bike can take you everywhere.
Praise for My Car: “Simply wonderful.” - Booklist (starred review)
Praise for My Bus: “There is so much here for repeated readings (and there will be repeated readings). Barton ingeniously introduces basic concepts but…so subtly that even parents may not realize they’re getting a math lesson. And yet it’s all there for little brains to absorb and work out on their own.” - Horn Book (starred review)
“Escalating surprises [with] a high-wire climax. . . . A natural for group storytimes, though plenty of single tots will enjoy seeing Tom’s seemingly quotidian world suddenly transformed.” - Kirkus Reviews (starred review)
“Brightly illustrated . . . reminiscent of children’s paintings in its broad lines, startling colors, and simplified shapes . . . With a surprising diversion toward the circus, and a twist back to cycles at the end, this will please fans of [Barton’s] previous books and young bike-lovers as well.” - Booklist (starred review)
“This latest installment in Barton’s transportation series may be the best one yet. Which is saying a lot.” - Horn Book (starred review)
“With bright primary colors, simple bold shapes, and the briefest of texts, Barton introduces Tom …[who] is a captivating and first-rate entertainer; so is the creator of this preschooler-perfect picture book.” - Horn Book (starred review)
“Tom and his bike pull together an entire community in what adds up to a prized preschool trilogy from Byron Barton.” - Shelf Awareness
