Widen also wrote the Academy Award nominated 1991 film Backdraft which was directed by Ron Howard and starred Kurt Russell, William Baldwin, Scott Glenn, Donald Sutherland, and Robert De Niro. Released in 1991, Backdraft received three nominations. Widen also wrote and directed the cult classic movie The Prophecy starring Christopher Walken.
