Unwrap the true meaning of Christmas with Advent bedtime stories!
Christmas is more than just presents under the tree, Santa, candy canes, and mistletoe. It’s a special time for families to discover and celebrate together what Christmas really means—the promise of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Children’s Advent Stories for Bedtime delivers a joyful collection of 25 stories of what this season is truly about while counting down the days until Jesus’ birthday.
Cozy up to God’s messages of joy, peace, and love with the following:
—Jim Daly, president, Focus on the Family
“For those of us who have kids in our lives, Julie and David Lavender have given us a gift that when unwrapped will help them focus on the true meaning of the season. The Bible stories chosen are reminders of God’s beautiful plan and how He uses ordinary people to fulfill His plan. When you make this their first gift of the season, the Bible stories, along with the Bible studies and reflection notes that follow each story, will help prepare young hearts for a faith-filled celebration of the Advent season.”
—Susan Allen, mom of two, grandmother of four, and retired children’s minister with 45 years of ministry
“In a culture that constantly pulls our attention in every direction, it’s no wonder the true meaning of Christmas can get lost—especially for our children. Julie and David Lavender have created a beautiful and timely resource that draws families back to what matters most. Through rich Advent stories, they invite kids into the wonder of Christ’s birth, the hope of the gospel, and the anticipation of His return. Each page is anchored in Scripture, reflection, and prayer—making it a meaningful way to center hearts on Jesus throughout the season. Well done, Julie and David!”
—Mark T. Hancock, author and CEO of Trail Life USA
“Children’s Advent Stories for Bedtime brings young readers an understanding of the wonders of the birth of Jesus and the Christmas season, one Advent evening at a time. Julie and David Lavender have written relatable, easy-to-understand tales and thoughtful questions to spark discussion. Bedtime is so important for settling down and redirecting our kids’ minds from the excitement of toys, candy, and presents, to the greatest gift ever. As it says in the book, ‘There’s never been another Christmas gift as wonderful as Jesus.’ I’ll be sharing this book with my grandchildren each night during Advent. It’s more than a bedtime routine; it’s a treasured way to share the season of hope and wonder.”
—Peggy Frezon, author of Saying Goodbye to a Good Dog and Mini Horse, Mighty Hope
“Much more than a retelling of the Christmas story, Children’s Advent Stories for Bedtime dives deeper with thoughtful reflections and questions, encouraging little ones to explore the true meaning of Christmas. I especially love how the authors begin with Creation and God’s plan to rescue His people right from the start—and then end with the cross and resurrection, offering a richer understanding of why Jesus came. What better way to drift off to sleep than with thoughts of the Savior and the love that sent Him from heaven to earth!”
—Tama Fortner, ECPA award-winning and bestselling author of more than 60 titles for children and adults
“This is a beautiful Advent storybook that follows biblical stories and centers them on Jesus, making it approachable and meaningful for children. The idea of reading a story each night during Advent is a wonderful tradition which builds anticipation for Christmas and creates cherished family moments while helping children connect deeply with the message of the Bible.”
—Jill Roman Lord, award-winning author of over 30 Christian children’s books, including One Night in Bethlehem, That Silent Noisy Night, and That Grand Christmas DayJulie and David Lavender love old traditions of Christmases past and new adventures of Christmas present.
With three grandchildren now, Julie and David especially love watching Christmas unfold and anticipating the birthday of Jesus through the eyes of little ones.
Julie, a former public school teacher and homeschooling mommy, has a master’s degree in early childhood education. David, a former medical entomologist for the US Navy and wildlife biologist for an army installation, has a master’s degree in entomology and a biology undergraduate degree.
Since David retired, Julie and David enjoy more time with their children and grandchildren, spend hours outdoors observing God’s beautiful creations, and find lots of time to write together. They are the authors of books, magazine and newspaper articles, and devotions.
Their most favorite hats to wear? Mommy and Grandmommy, Daddy and Granddaddy.
Shahar Kober is an illustrator working from a very small studio, in a very small town, in a very small country. Over the years, Shahar has illustrated tens of books, but he also creates illustrations for newspapers, magazines, and animated films. He also teaches illustration. When Shahar isn't illustrating, he enjoys the outdoors, taking care of his garden (which is very small as well!), and finding little insect friends there.
