I know what \u003ci\u003edown\u003c\/i\u003e means.\u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e I stop jumping.\u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e “Good dog,” Josh says.\u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e \u003ci\u003e \u003c\/i\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003ci\u003e \u003c\/i\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003ci\u003ePlink. I stand very, very still.\u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e The squirrels get quiet. I think they are staying, too.\u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e Josh twirls his paw around in a circle. “Twirl,” he says.\u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e I stand on my hind legs and turn in a circle. The squirrels don’t. They don’t know what \u003ci\u003etwirl\u003c\/i\u003e means. \u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003e \u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e Dogs are smarter than squirrels.\u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e “Good dog.” Josh pets me on the head.\u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e “You want to do more tricks, Josh?” I bark. I love doing tricks. They make Josh smile.\u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e But Josh doesn’t want to do more tricks. He walks across the yard and opens the gate. I start to follow him.\u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e “Sparky, stay!” Josh says.\u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e I stay.\u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e Now I can hear Josh’s big metal machine with the four round paws.\u003cbr\u003e  At first the sound is loud. Then it gets softer and softer, until it sounds far away.\u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e Josh is gone. I’m all alone.\u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e \u003ci\u003ePlink. Plunk.\u003c\/i\u003e\u003cbr\u003e \u003ci\u003e \u003c\/i\u003e\u003cbr\u003e “Ouch!”\u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e Well, not \u003ci\u003eall\u003c\/i\u003e alone. Those squirrels are still in the tree.\u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e “Come down!” I say. “Play fair!”\u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e I think the squirrels might understand, because they slide down the tree!\u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e Then they start to run.\u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e The squirrels want to play chase!\u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e “Ready or not, here I come!” I start to chase them through my snowy yard. \u003cbr\u003e \u003cb\u003e \u003c\/b\u003e\u003cbr\u003e The squirrels are fast. They climb onto the top of my fence. Then they leap over to the other side.\u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e I can’t get them there. Our game is over.\u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e Now I’m really alone in my yard, with nothing to do.\u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e Wait! There \u003ci\u003eis\u003c\/i\u003e something I can do. I can dig. I love digging.\u003cbr\u003e  \u003cbr\u003e I run over to where Josh’s flowers are when there isn’t snow in our yard.
