After winning independence from one of the most powerful monarchies in the world, the United States and its people had strong ideas about how the country should be run. Leaders met at the Constitutional Convention where they developed the nation’s founding document—the Constitution. The document outlined basic rights of all citizens, processes for government, and checks and balances against leaders. Over 200 years later, the United States still strives to follow the ideals and systems put in place by the founding fathers!
