Entre 2011 y 2015 Manuel Vicent publicó tres novelas que conforman una serie sobre la España contemporánea. Between 2011 and 2015, Manuel Vicent published three novels that conform a series about contemporary Spain. In his first novel, Aguirre: The Magnificent, he turned the Duke of Alba into his narrative focus to describe the age of Francoism. In The Blond Woman’s Fate, Carmen Díez de Rivera and an already forgetful Alfonso Suárez became the vertebrae of a transition tale.

Lastly, in Fawn Parade, a royal family portrait crafted along decades by Antonio López shows how the democratic utopia ended up scraped. In these books we find some picaresque, almost grotesque literature, humor, and irony, but above all, Vicent’s masterful ability to create characters and recount Spanish history prevails.
