Description
Quality assurance (QA) has become an increasingly important topic, as environmental monitoring bodies realize that accuracy of measurements can depend very much on how the measurement is taken. This book will describe methods in light of all of the European, US, and international (ISO) guidelines for QA of water analysis.

It is the third book in the Water Quality Measurement Series, it tackles the growing problem of developing an international understanding for measurement and data collection. The author gives a detailed overview of:
* The purpose of water analysis
* Quality systems and quality control
* Sources of error including sample contamination
* Method validation
* Certified reference materials
* Data Reporting
* Inter-laboratory studies- dritter Band der Reihe Water Quality Measurement

Index "...This is a timely publication and should assist all users and producers of water quality data ......" (Int Jnl of Environmental Analytical Chemistry, Vol.82, No.10, 2002)

Philippe Quevauviller has published more than 200 papers and several books linked to environmental quality measurements. He joined the Research General-Directorate of the European Commission in 1989 where he was scientific officer on topics dealing with the quality control of environmental analysis. Since 2002, he has integrated the Water & Marine Unit of the EC Environment Directorate-General where is now responsible for the development of a new Groundwater Directive which will complement the existing water policy framework. He is part-time professor at the K.U.Leuven where he teaches "water quality and treatment" in an Interuniversity programme on Water Resources.

Overtly exploited, misleadingly abundant and essential to survival, water and its quality remains as one of the most important global resource issues we face today

Water quality is one of the most important global issues which society faces today. Ever increasing pressure on this essential but limited resource is resulting in deterioration in water quality and it is vital that all water quality measurements are carried out using appropriate procedures.

This, the third book in the Water Quality Measurement Series, guides the reader through the complex issues surrounding the generation of "fit-for-purpose" data within known confidence limits. The comprehensive coverage encompasses:
* data users' requirements

* sampling plans and protocols

* analysis and associated quality assurance and quality control

* production of analysis reports

* archive storage
This volume brings together all of the key issues associated with quality assurance for water analysis and will be invaluable to all users and producers of water quality data.

Water Quality Measurement Series

This series provides a comprehensive coverage of the analytical techniques used for the measurement of substances in water from sampling through to laboratory analysis. The scope of the series encompasses topical issues including quality assurance, standard procedures, and the best practices in measuring water quality, from surface and drinking water to coastal and wastewater. The techniques will be discussed in relation to current legislation and guidelines.

The series aims to offer workable answers to specific practical issues related to measurements of the water cycle quality, using a comprehensive and scientifically sound approach.
