Description
For fans ages 9 to 12 of Odder and Growing Home, a fun and heartwarming story about a seabird who insists on flying solo ... until an injury forces her to stop and rest amongst an ever-growing flock of other birds.
Fia Featherstone is a seabird who loves migrating solo. She is brave and bold and has first-rate navigation skills. Not once has she ever gotten lost, until a particularly wild storm blows her off course . . . right into a window.
Fia wakes on the balcony of an old, abandoned house, relieved to be alive. But when she tries to stand, the world begins to sway. This, she knows, is bad news. If she can't stand, she definitely can't fly. And now she has to do one of her least favorite things: stay still and rest. She tells herself it will only take an hour — two at most.
Hours turn to days as Fia slowly recovers. And it turns out she's not alone. Gus, a talkative the pigeon, is a longtime inhabitant of the abandoned house, and he's delighted to have company. Fia is not.
Then other birds start arriving, also thrown off course by the big storm. Soon the temporary home is packed with lost and injured birds (and one demanding butterfly), all of whom need help, not to mention a trio of gossipy chickadees who want nothing more than to be concierges at this new lodging.
At first, Fia is desperate to escape the crowd. But the longer she stays, the more she starts to feel surprisingly at home. Could it be that she actually enjoys helping lost and injured travelers? But just as everyone is settling in and learning to get along, another massive storm starts brewing, threatening their sanctuary.
