Day of Little Angels

In this tender picture book about love, family, and healing—a companion to Jalapeño Bagels—a grieving boy feels himself drawing closer to his lost loved one through participating in Día de los Angelitos traditions.

Tomorrow is Día de los Angelitos, the Day of Little Angels, a time to welcome the spirits of children back home and honor their lives. Pablo doesn’t feel much like celebrating, though.

Still, he joins Papa in baking the traditional pan de muerto sweet bread and helps Mama decorate sugar-candy skulls. But his cousin Angelina’s ofrenda, adorned with fragrant marigolds and incense, is missing something—something special from Pablo to help guide her home.
