His fantasy-horror tale The Ballad of Black Tom won the 2016 Shirley Jackson Award for best novella. LaValle made his Marvel Comics debut with Sabretooth, following that with its sequel, Sabretooth & The Exiles, before collaborating with fellow writer Benjamin Percy on the “Sabretooth War” arc of Wolverine.
