After escaping slavery, Harriet Tubman rescued dozens of people, including her friends and family, from slavery using a series of safe houses known as the Underground Railroad. She also served as a scout for the Union army during the American Civil War, she served as an armed scout and spy for the Union Army and later joined the women’s suffrage movement.
