All I Want Is a Picture of You: Photographing Debbie Harry and Blondie, 1974–2024

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of Blondie, the iconic new-wave band’s eponymous debut album, and follow their career from their beginnings on NYC’s Lower East Side to their current performances with rare and never-before-seen photographs by legendary rock and roll photographer Bob Gruen.

When Blondie exploded onto the music scene in New York City’s Lower East Side in the mid-1970s, they were a rarity: a punk band led by a woman, the now-legendary Debbie Harry. Becoming regulars at CBGB and Max’s Kansas City, the band—including guitarist Chris Stein and drummer Clem Burke—opened for acts such as Iggy Pop and David Bowie before becoming a worldwide sensation in their own right. Through it all, photographer Bob Gruen was there, documenting it with his camera.

All I Want Is a Picture of You features hundreds of Gruen’s intimate and candid photographs of the iconic band, from their punk beginnings to their mainstream success in the 1980s and up to their most recent performances. Rare and never-before-seen images sit side by side with some of the most iconic pictures of the band, along with exclusive, insightful commentary by Bob Gruen and comments from Debbie Harry and Chris Stein. This work is a unique look through the lens of a rock photography icon at Debbie, Chris, Clem, and the rest of the band as they ushered in the new wave of American rock and is a celebration of Blondie’s widely influential career.
