Women, Walking:Women Writers on Why Walking Matters to Them

A showcase of the very best contemporary writing about walking, all of which is written by women.

Featuring twelve specially commissioned pieces of writing, this anthology gathers together many of the most prominent writers on walking of the last decade across a range of genres, including poetry, novels, essays, and journalism. Demonstrating the richness and range of writing by women on walking, the anthology includes poet and novelist Helen Mort who won the 2023 Banff Festival grand prize as well as Josie Giles, Beatrice Searle, Polly Atkin, and Katharine Norbury, among others.

Through its different essays, this collection confirms both the importance of walking to women as creators and the centrality of women’s writing about walking to contemporary adventure and outdoors literature. | Kerri Andrews is a writer, editor, academic, and a walker.
