Description
This book clearly describes the leading techniques for channel coding. An advanced tutorial greatly improves the reader's understanding of the material. Rigorous analytical and theoretical examples are provided along with sample problems and solutions. The latest research findings on new techniques in channel coding are also included.
(TIS) Fundamentals.

Martin Bossert from Ulm University, Ulm, Germany was named Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers in 2012 for contributions to reliable data transmission including code constructions and soft decision decoding. Channel coding is the theory by which codes can be constructed to correct and detect errors. Such errors may be caused by transmission channels and noise. Any mobile communications system would be impossible without channel coding. This book presents classic theory and techniques for block and convolutional codes with an emphasis on decoding algorithms. Furthermore, the powerful technique of Generalized Concatenated Coding (GCC) is introduced, using illustrative examples. The theory of GCC is explained using recent concepts which were developed in Eastern Europe. From such perspective, the concept of coded modulation is explained and novel techniques are derived. The range of topics covered in this book is beneficial to undergraduate and postgraduate students performing research at an advanced level in this subject area, as well as for engineers whose work involves communications error control coding. Distinctive features of this book include:
* style which is suitable for use as a text book
* rigorous analytical and theoretical examples
* sample problems and solutions to illustrate theoretical material
* research findings about important new techniques in channel coding.
