What Is Highly Unlikely but not Impossible?

A diverse compendium of writing and visual art that addresses pertinent issues found in the work of Hiwa K.

What is highly likely but not impossible? is informed by themes found in the work of Hiwa K, such as statehood, war, migration, belonging, the effects of neoliberalism and colonialism, home as a concept, language, and the myth of the individual artist. The compendium ranges freely across mediums, drawing together experimental poetry, science fiction, photography, memoir, academic essays, art historical texts, and more. Contributions include a short story by Benjamin Labatut, an excerpt from a lecture by Achille Mbembe, and drawings by Hajra Waheed. Like previous editions in the series, this book brings together a range of voices and mediums to consider some of the most pressing issues of our time.

Diego Villalobos is a curator from Cuernavaca, Mexico, currently based in San Francisco. He works as the Assistant Curator at the CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts, where he recently presented Rodrigo Hernández: with what eyes? (2023–24), Drum Listens to Heart: Live Performances (2022–23), and Mirra Helen: Leaves 1992–2022 (2022). From 2016 to 2019, Villalobos served as a curator at The 500 Capp Street Foundation in San Francisco.
