Description
A striking anthology exploring India’s spiritual landscape, combining photography by Briana Blasko with reflective essays by leading voices, including a foreword by HH The Dalai Lama.

As a child, Briana Blasko found herself living between two worlds. Shaped by the contemplative traditions of Catholicism and Buddhism, she strove to find a delicate balance between multifaceted cultures. It was only natural then, that her gaze would one day turn toward the spiritual landscape of India—the land which for centuries has welcomed communities from around the world to mingle and thrive together.

Photographed between 2008–2024, Spiritual India is the culmination of Briana’s travels throughout India, where she observed the lives of people across faiths, from the mainstream to the fringes. The richly detailed images transcend the rigid boundaries of religions, focusing instead on the interconnectedness of their quiet gestures and the stillness of their places of prayer. | Briana Blasko is a San Francisco-born portrait photographer, who shares her time between India and California. Prior to 2008, she lived in New York for twelve years and photographed contemporary dance for the New York Times. Her work has culminated in the production of a series of photographic books, including Dance of the Weave (Penguin Books, India) and Within Without: The Path of the Yogi (Harper Collins, India). Her photographs have appeared in numerous publications, including the Wall Street Journal, Vogue India, NPR, The World (PublicRadio International), CNN, Huffington Post, Hand/Eye, Selvedge, Washington Times, Ballet Magazine and Marg.
