Description
Suspense, adventure, and mystery abound during a multigenerational family trip to a luxury resort on a private island.
Sam, Lily and Jordan don’t live near one another, but they take a trip together every year. This summer, their elusive grandmother is paying for their families to visit Paradise, an all-inclusive luxury resort off the Florida Keys. The kids – three junior high cousins, ages 12 and 13 – are pumped.
Paradise is a private island with multiple swimming pools, all-you-can-eat buffets, lavish entertainments, and a teen camp that offers adventures like ziplining and parasailing. Each guest wears a bracelet to access activities and monitor their locations for safety. This means the kids can come and go as they please, while their parents just plant themselves on the beach.
The whole resort tries to make visitors feel special, like supermodels or billionaires. This is great if you actually are a supermodel or a billionaire, but it’s kind of awkward if you have braces or you’ve just finished seventh grade. The upside-down world of Paradise inspires the cousins to pretend they’re people they’re not. With all their newfound freedom, the cousins start taking too many risks. They test their new identities, break some rules, and mingle with people who should raise red flags.
By the time Jordan suggests ditching the safety bracelets, the trio is beginning to see the darker side of the resort.
And as the resort’s many secrets come into focus, so do the many secrets of their family.Claudia Gabel is a publishing insider who’s worked as an editor at Alloy, PRH, and Harper Collins, and written many books of her own. She visits her little corner of Paradise on Lake Michigan every summer and currently lives outside Philadelphia with her husband and daughter.
