Description
Written by the curator of the John Piper exhibition at the Tate Liverpool, this enlightening volume takes a fresh look at the artist and over 80 of his finest paintings.

John Piper (1903–1992) is renowned for his extraordinary landscape, architectural, and abstract compositions, as well as the theater and stage sets he created for Benjamin Britten, and his stained-glass windows. The Tate Liverpool has curated an exhibition to honor the artist, the first to examine Piper’s role in European modernism. Created to accompany that show, this volume features 50 of Piper’s works, including painting, relief, collage, and photography. Comprising over 70 images, it covers Piper’s early years and art, his turn towards abstraction, place and travel writing, and WWII, ruins, and Neo-Romantic landscapes.
