Index. PAUL A. NEE is the Manager of Quality at DORMA Door Controls Inc., of Reamstown, Pennsylvania. He is a graduate of Williamsport Technical Institute in tool design technology and Elizabethtown College in business management. His work experience includes 30 years in inspection, quality control, quality assurance, and quality management. Eighteen of those years have been spent with DORMA Door Controls, Inc. For the past five years, he has been responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the ISO 9001 Quality Assurance System. In addition, he is the Facilitator for Total Quality Management at DORMA. During the past two years, he has presented 35 ISO seminars to the construction-related industries and other professional groups. The construction industry and related suppliers have lagged behind other industries in the implementation of quality control and quality management assurance programs. Construction-related companies certainly care about quality, but the industry's structure—or lack thereof—is simply not conducive to dealing with quality-related issues. But, in an increasingly competitive international construction market, a reliable quality assurance system is frequently the crucial factor in landing a contract. Organizations that fail to establish quality track records are at a serious competitive disadvantage. Here is the ultimate handbook for engineers, architects, contractors, specifications workers, and hardware managers who need to deliver products and services at a consistently high level of quality. ISO 9000 in Construction enables construction professionals—from architects and engineers to contractors and suppliers—to develop quality standards and procedures precisely suited to their particular needs and responsibilities. It offers step-by-step instructions on the implementation and management of an ISO 9000 quality assurance system and demonstrates how the system puts the quality-management process into effect before work begins and detects and corrects problems before they reach disastrous proportions.
