Description
This volume will focus on and emphasise the clinical relevance of diabetic nephropathy, a relatively common problem of diabetes. It affects about one in three patients with Type 1 diabetes, and left untreated can lead to a progressive decline in renal function, accompanied by retinopathy and arterial hypertension, which, in turn, leads to cardiovascular disease - a common cause of death in these patients. Diabetic Nephropathy will also provide the reader with a solid grounding in current basic and clinical research. List of Contributors.

Index. "...a helpful addition to the library of medical professionals dealing with diabetic patients...provides…a more comprehensive...significantly cheaper alternative to Nephropathy in Type 2 Diabetes in the Oxford Clinical Nephrology Series...." (Doody’s, March 9, 2002)

Christoph Hasslacher, Head of Department at the St Josef's Hospital in Heidelberg, Germany, has specialised in diabetes and its associated complications, particularly diabetic nephropathy, for many years, both scientifically and clinically. He has published many scientific articles on this topic. He is a representative of the 'Diabetes and the Kidney' working group of the German Diabetes Organization.

It is essential that all those involved in the care of people with diabetes, including the diabetes specialist team and nephrologists, are aware of the best clinical management practices in preventing and treating renal complications.

This book summarises these; the important practical aspects in diagnosis, differential diagnosis and treatment of diabetic nephropathy based on current knowledge. Aspects of pathogenesis and clinical features for specific groups such as pregnant women, adolescents and patients with cardiovascular complications and disorders of lipid metabolism are also covered.
* An area of great importance and interest to both clinicians in diabetes and the health care team

* A practical clinical approach

* Contributions from experts with considerable experience of treating patients with these complications
Diabetic Nephropathy will provide the reader with a solid grounding in the current basic and clinical research in this area.
