"A valuable source of information … .This book should be of great value and utility for chemists working in the field of organic synthesis in academic and industrial research laboratories." (Angewandte Chemie International Edition, November 2008)

"The book should be of a great value and utility for chemists working in the field of organic synthesis in academic and industrial research laboratories. It should convince not only a valuable and general methodology for efficient and economic manufacturing of organic chemicals, but is also becoming an efficient tool for finely stereocontrolled organic synthesis." (Angewandte Chemie, November 10, 2008)

"The book offers a welcome introduction to asymmetric phase-transfer catalysis and can be highly recommended as an addition to chemical libraries." (Journal of the American Chemical Society, September 17, 2008)

Keiji Maruoka is a professor of chemistry in Kyoto University in Japan. Having obtained his Ph.D. degree from University of Hawaii, he spent his career working for Nagoya and Hokkaido Universities before taking his current appointment at Kyoto University. Professor Maruoka has authored over 250 scientific publications and has received numerous scientific awards, including the Inoue Prize for Science, the Ichimura Prize for Science, the Japan Synthetic Organic Chemistry Award, and the Nagoya Medal. He is also a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a member of the international advisory editorial board of several international journals.
Asymmetric phase transfer catalysis is an emerging topic in the field of organocatalysis and more fascinating asymmetric reactions by organocatalysis are definitely expected in the near future. In contrast to ordinary metal-catalyzed reactions, phase transfer catalysis has several advantages, including its water-tolerable properties with operational simplicity by using environmentally-benign catalysts, and the easy separation of products due to its biphasic nature.
Edited by the leading expert on the topic, this timely book provides valuable information not available elsewhere, with top contributors sharing the latest developments in this exciting field. Alongside the theoretical aspects, they cover laboratory protocols as well as applications of the process chemistry and chiral technology in industry.
A must for every synthetic chemist in academia and industry.
